It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.
– Walt Disney
Who really wants to work in a sterile, formal environment? Anyone? Many companies are famous for their perks – you know, free lunches, dry cleaning, massages, and “thinking time.” Is that what people really want? Or do they simply want to feel a little alive while at work?
Traditional leaders are quick to focus on problems and issues. Working in such an organization – or family for that matter – is a nonstop series of firefights. Mindful leaders know there needs to be balance. Sure, problems need to be dealt with. But successes also need to be recognized and celebrated. There is nothing wrong with having a little fun with a task or project.
Live and let live, even at work. Laugh a little, play a little. Can individuals be recognized at staff meetings? Family meetings? Successful projects? Can a difficult task be turned into a game, or have some fun reward tied to its completion?
